Our Avocados

Rwanda’s volcanic soils, are the reason why our avocados present a distinctive flavor. Our soil is known for its exceptional fertility and high mineral content, making it ideal for agriculture. Formed from ancient volcanic deposits, these soils exhibit unique physical and chemical properties, classified as Andosols, which support the region's high population density and diverse farming systems.

  - Origin: These soils developed from volcanic parent materials and ash originating from the Virunga Mountain range located in northwestern region of the country.

 - Fertility: Rwandan soils are naturally rich in minerals, including magnesium and potassium, released as volcanic rocks and ash. Over time these weather seeping into and creating highly fertile ground.

Volcanic Soil leads to the unique flavor profile of Rwandan Avocados characterized by a rich, creamy, and buttery texture with prominent nutty undertones. The premium Hass variety, in particular, offers a balanced, rich, and nutty taste, while the highly valued Fuerte variety provides a smooth, buttery flavor

Hass

Hass avocados are known for their bumpy, dark-green to black skin that signals ripeness, a creamy, nutty flavor, and a high fat and oil content, making them a globally popular variety that dominates the avocado market. Discovered in California in the 1920s by A.R.Hass, a mailman from Anaheim, California Hass avocados ripen only after picking, and the thick skin provides better durability and a longer shelf life compared to other varieties.

Fuerte

Fuerte (meaning strong in Spanish) avocados originate from Mexico and  have a dark green hue with small yellow dots that may develop occasional black spots when very ripe. Their light green flesh is known for its higher oil content creamy, smooth texture and a rich, buttery flavor highlighted by subtle hazelnut notes. Fuerte Avocados tend to be slightly larger than its export variety cousin, the Hass avocado.
